Atanas Yaranov

Atanas Yaranov was born on July 13, 1940 in Sofia. In 1965, he graduated from the specialty "Decorative-monumental painting" at VIIII "Nikolay Pavlovich" in the class of Prof. Georgi Bogdanov. He works in the field of figural composition, portraiture, easel and monumental painting.

His works have participated in collective representative exhibitions of Bulgarian art in England, France, Italy, FRG, USSR, Romania, Japan, USA, Czechoslovakia, Poland and other countries.

Yaranov held solo exhibitions in Plovdiv, Warsaw, Varna, Bratislava, Sofia, West Berlin. He is the winner of many national awards.
Works by Atanas Yaranov are owned by the National Art Gallery, the Sofia City Art Gallery, many museums and galleries throughout the country, as well as galleries and private collectors in Switzerland, the USA, France, etc.

Atanas Yaranov died in 1988, remaining one of the emblematic names in the Bulgarian plastic culture of the 70s and 80s of the 20th century. In his oil paintings, pastels and murals, the idea of ​​monumentality of the forms is always present. Regardless of the subject of a given work, everyday-prosaic or archaic-mythological, art lovers will unmistakably recognize the massive, sculptural brush stroke of Atanas Yaranov.
