Gancho Karabadzhakov
Gancho Petkov Karabadjakov was born in 1951 in Sliven. He graduated from the Art High School in Kazanlak in 1972. In 1979 he graduated from the Academy of Arts, Sofia, majoring in "Illustration and Artistic Book Layout" in the class of Prof. Hristo Neykov.
Gancho Karabazhakov mainly worked as a painter. As a member of SBH since 1982, participated in many regional and national exhibitions. He is also the author of murals, frescoes, illustrations and drawings. Since 2001, he was a deputy of the Minister of Culture in the office of the Ministry of Education and Culture. Since 1990, he lived in the village of Arbanasi, Velikotarnovsko.
Karabazhakov definec his own artistic style as figurative - realistic, in the spirit of ancient Bulgarian traditions. Often with a playful plot, his works interpret biblical, folkloric and erotic themes. Characteristic are the narrative approach, the detailed presentation of the composition, the bright naive color and deformations of the characters.
Gancho Karabadjakov had over 60 solo exhibitions in the country (Yambol, Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas) and abroad (Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, USA, Austria, France, Turkey). For many years he was the director of the "Boris Denev" HG in Veliko Tarnovo
