Kiril Mateev was born on March 5, 1920 in Tsaribrod (now Dimitrovgrad). He graduated (1945) in monumental mural at the Academy of Arts, Sofia, in the class of Prof. Dechko Uzunov. Works in the field of poster, illustration, book layout. The artist's favorite subject is the high mountain landscapes that he paints around Rila, Pirin, the Rhodopes and Stara Planina.

Since 1946 he has participated in OHI, in district, group and collective exhibitions, since 1945 he has arranged solo exhibitions almost every year in Sofia, Vratsa, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Varna, Burgas, Silistra, Dimitrovgrad, Samokov, Chirpan, Gabrovo, Gorna Oryahovitsa, etc. His works can be found in NHH, SGHH, HG in the country, in private collections.

Kiril Mateev died in 2006.
