Determining the authorship of works created decades ago has always been a challenge even for the greatest specialists. At the Loran Gallery, we have not purposefully collected works by unknown artists, and when we have come across unsigned paintings, we have not attributed them to the work of any one artist, without being sure of their origin.

Coming from various collections, stored over the years without a specific purpose, the paintings in this exhibition have never been the subject of research.

Some of the works are in their authentic form and bear the patina of time, others have been painstakingly restored. Some of the canvases lack inscriptions and texts, others are painstakingly signed and dated. There are also those with initials that are very difficult to read. This mystery has sharpened our curiosity and motivated us to show them in an exhibition.

The artistic inequality of the current exhibition from a shortcoming turns into a pleasant contrast. It contains masterful paintings, as well as more inconspicuous works. We present our random collection as an experiment. The questions we ask ourselves are also questions to our audience. Let this exhibition become a kind of dialogue – we invite a wide range of art connoisseurs to share their opinions, so that together we can discover at least some of the UNKNOWN AND UNRECOGNIZED artists.

Our experimental exhibition will also be available on the website of the Loran Gallery. We will actively publish all the paintings on social networks to collect more opinions.
