Dilo Dilov
He was born on July 10, 1914 in the village of Lazarovo, Vrachansko. After completing his high school education, he lives and works in Sofia. In 1937 he went to study at the Art Academy in Belgrade. His professor is Milo Milunovich - a graduate of the French school of painting and a follower of Cézanne, and the atmosphere in which he studies is permeated by the aesthetic principles of impressionism and post-impressionism.
Due to the war, he was forced to return to Bulgaria and graduated from the Sofia Art Academy in the class of Prof. Nikola Ganushev - 1942. Despite the then understanding of traditional painting, Dilo Dilov remained faithful to impressionism and modern European painting. He worked in this style until the end of his life and remains its bright representative in Bulgarian fine art.
From 1960 to 1974, he was the Creative Secretary of the Group of Artists in Pleven. He was a member of the Union of Bulgarian Artists - Sofia from 1957 and of its Board of Directors until 1984.
In 1958, he organized the opening of the Art Gallery in Pleven.
Opened two solo exhibitions in Sofia at "Rakovska"125 in 1968 and 1976, one in Pleven, in Lovech and Rostov-on-Don - Russia. Three jubilee exhibitions were organized posthumously: in Sofia "Shipka" 6 in 1987, in Pleven in the Art Gallery in 1999 and in Sofia "Shipka" 6 in 2004.
In 1983, he worked in the SBH studios in Paris.
His works are owned by the National Art Gallery, Sofia City Art Gallery, almost all galleries in the country and many private collections at home and abroad: Austria, France, Yugoslavia, Czech Republic, Romania, Hungary, USA, Russia, Japan, Cyprus, Germany, Tunisia and others. He twice won the Competition for the Sofia Award with his works: "Alexander Nevsky" and "Ivan Vazov National Theater". For his contribution to the field of visual arts, Dilo Dilov was awarded the title of "meritorious artist" in 1972 and posthumously with the title of "honorary citizen" of Pleven.
